The hidden cost of a cheap website

You can find website creation offers at £500, sometimes less. Platforms promise a professional site in a few hours. And for some very basic needs, these solutions can work. But for a business looking to generate leads online, the maths is rarely as simple as it appears.

The first hidden cost is time. A low-cost site typically leaves you alone with content writing, visual selection, technical configuration and SEO optimisation. These tasks require specific skills. The time you spend on them, or spend correcting mistakes, has a value. If you bill your time at £100 per hour and spend 40 hours on your site, your "free" site has cost you £4,000.

The second hidden cost is lost revenue. A poorly designed, poorly ranked site that does not convert is a site that does not generate leads. If your competitor invests in a professional site and captures the prospects you could have had, the price difference between the two sites becomes trivial compared to the lost revenue.

The third hidden cost is technical debt. A site built on a limited platform or with poor-quality code will eventually require a complete redesign. And that redesign will cost more than if the site had been well designed from the start, because you will need to manage content migration, preserve acquired rankings, and fix accumulated structural problems.

Investing in a professional website is investing in an asset that works for you 24 hours a day. The question is not "how much does a website cost?" but "how much does a well-made site earn me relative to what it costs?" We have explored this in our guide on how much a website costs. For tailored support, let's talk.
